A long way away

I give thanks for the light nights of the northern summertime providing practice for falling asleep well before darkness here. I give thanks I had to get up and do things or I wouldn't have. I give thanks for friendly cab drivers steering me through the folk festival crowds (and not having their meters on!) and an afternoon of resting my aches and pains.

I give thanks for having a holiday. I give thanks for not having to shop and cook and clean, to have people to talk to if I want to and not to have to listen to neighbours going about their business all day. I give thanks I've seen the peaceful beauty of the fjords and that eventually I might stop longing to go back.
