Hmmm...if I want to go anywhere by public transport over the next few days (at least) I'm going to have to do it without music in at least one of my ears. Grim prospect... Of course I'm never mad keen on going anywhere by public transport these days anyway but sometimes one needs to get somewhere or get something...and going somewhere or getting somtheing is a a pleasant distraction from pain such as earache. I shall just have to hope I reach a state of evolved desire-free serenity tout de suite or if I do go anywhere and there are noisy humans travelling my way one of the bouts of slight deafness comes back!
Watched a documentary about prostitution last night in which a severely disabled man went to Amsterdam (where prostitution is legal) for sex because they have specialised brothels there with wheelchair access etc. This gentleman was unable to dress himself or feed himself, tho he was perfectly intelligent and articulate and employed as able to type using a mouth held keyboard tapper. It was casually dropped into the commentary by narrator that if he’d lived in the Netherlands he would have been eligible for a benefit towards the cost of sexual services ‘up to twelve times a year’. So many things I wanted to understand about that. Could you blow it all in one go (no pun intended) if you had limited life expectancy for instance. Was it just for men and if so why...and if so was it just for straight men and if so why? There was a well meaning but very censorious woman who kept saying all prostitution was based on the assumption that men have a right to sex so maybe it is just for men but nonetheless I thought this particular example was more about having the right to want a sexual experience even if your chances of achieving a stable loving relationship are diminished. As this guy said it was the latter he wanted, but all the things his able bodied peers might do while waiting for one (like going to out socialising, or staying home ‘making the best of things’) were impossible for him. His dad took him to what seemed a very pleasant and caring brothel, left him and went next door and had a pint and you know what I’m so glad it was there. It reminded me of Dignitas in a way...
Prostitution...what a fascinating subject, I can honestly say I neither object nor aprove, if that makes sense!! Live and let live as long as both parties are happy with it and no body else gets hurt I say, never thought about it till now but I'm wondering if there are brothels for women and if not, why not?, hope the gentleman felt he got his money's worth, after all it's a long way to go just for a shag innit??? :)))
